Wire mask 2020

Stephanie has always been a creative individual, her mother and teachers always told her she would be an artist when she grew up. They inspired her and let her know she had a talent. However, ever since Stephanie won the yearbook cover design contest in the fifth grade, she became obsessed with art making. She was sitting at her desk during the morning announcements, and heard, "The winner for the 2006-2007 yearbook cover is... Stephanie Gomez!" She was in shock while her classmates jumped for joy and congratulated her. She remembers looking through the pages of the yearbook for the first time and saw that an entire page was dedicated to her, a picture of her with her design and a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson stating, "Every Artist was first an Amateur", It was then that Shephanie truely aspired to become an artist.

Stephanie Gomez is a San Francisco Bay Area native, who enjoys experimenting with the visually pleasing collaboration and unpleasing joining chaos of materials. Her work is greatly influenced by Catholisism, childhood development, emotional tension from memories, and the physical and psychological symptoms of mental health disorders such as depression through the symbolism of materiality.

Gomez studied interdisciplinary art practice from a conceptual and research focused approach and earned her BA in Art Practice at the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently working on her portfolio and will be applying to MFA programs in the near future.
